Insight Innovation Integration

The theme for ICC 2017 is “ Insight Innovation Integration” !!

Throughout human history, progress has always started with an insight an identification of a problem. Intense thought and debate follows an insight and out of that firmament emerges a possible innovation a possible solution to the identified problem. But these two processes of insight and innovation are by no means isolated or linear phenomenon. They are extremely dynamic in nature and universal in their presence. The result….. a very large number of innovation and may become available in the scientific firmament.
The next logical question would then arise- How can we integrate these innovations into our daily practice? The field of oncology is rapidly evolving and is air constant flux. What is thought to be true may very soon be turned on its head by new insights and new innovations. It is therefore prudent and necessary that we the oncology community – periodically stop in our fast tracks and take stock of some important insights and innovations and debate how best we can integrate these innovations into our practice. A powerful example of such insight would be our increasing recognition of the importance of psycho-oncology. Using this insight, we would innovate a unique training programme in psycho-oncology and work towards integrating psycho-oncology with main stream cancer care!!! There is a large industrial base, supporting and driving cancer care. There would be insights a plenty and innovations in abundance. ICC 2017 provides a unique platform to present such insight and innovations.
Personalized cancer care is the current buzzword as far as insight go! By 2017, certainly there will be a plethora of innovations in this rapidly expanding field. ICC 2017 could well be a platform for some of these innovations to be integrated into practice! ICC 2017 – it’s all about insights, innovations and integrations!! Come join us in this exciting journey. Write in with your own insights, innovations or ideas on integration!
ICC 2017 is all about you, and your creativity! Let move cancer care to the next level.

Biocon: Enhancing Global Healthcare

Biocon Limited is India's largest and fully-integrated, innovation-led biopharmaceutical company. As an emerging global biopharmaceutical enterprise, it is committed to reduce therapy costs of chronic diseases like autoimmune, diabetes and cancer. Through innovative products and research services it is enabling access to affordable healthcare for patients, partners and healthcare systems across the globe.

Innovation-Led Enterprise
An innovation-led organization focused on providing affordable access, Biocon has built differentiated capabilities in the areas of biologics and complex small molecules. The company’s aspiration to become a US$1 billion company by FY19 is fuelled by four powerful growth accelerators: Small Molecules: APIs & Generic Formulations, Biologics: Novels & Biosimilars, Branded Formulations and Research Services, represented by its subsidiary Syngene. It has successfully developed and taken a range of Novel Biologics, Biosimilars, differentiated Small Molecules and affordable Recombinant Human Insulin and Analogs from 'Lab to Market'.

Biocon's key innovations include Seven Biologics including novels and bisosimilars, ranging from indigenous recombinant human insulin based on proprietary fermentation technology, insulin analog Glargine; India's first indigenously produced monoclonal antibody, Nimotuzumab; the world’s first humanized anti-CD6 monoclonal antibody, Itolizumab; and also world’s first biosimilar Trastuzumab developed in India.

A leading Biologics Player
As the largest biotech enterprise of India Biocon has built global scale capacities for manufacturing high quality biologics, enabling it to address the growing needs for affordable biopharmaceuticals the world over. As one of the leading oncology companies in India, it has brought safe, efficacious and affordable medicines for cancer to cater to the needs of patients, caregivers and medical practitioners in the country. It is currently a front- runner in the area of biosimilars developing a portfolio of 10 assets for global markets in collaboration with Mylan.

Bringing Affordable Therapy to India
Biocon has been addressing the critical need for affordable therapy for chronic diseases in India and other emerging markets over the years. The company has been a pioneer in bringing innovative, globally benchmarked biologics to patients in India. Biocon's strategy of ‘highest quality at lowest cost’ has enabled it to build premium brands in chronic therapeutic areas such as diabetes, cancer, end-stage renal disease, immune disorders and other life threatening conditions.

A unique combination of specialty products, patient support and physician engagement programs have enabled Biocon’s brands to assume leadership positions.

Biocon had helped bring down the cost of insulin therapy by a third when it launched the country’s first indigenously developed rh-Insulin, Insugen®, in 2004. Insugen® ranks among the Top 3 brands of rh-insulin available in India. Basalog®, launched in 2009, is the number two Insulin Glargine brand in the country.

Biocon is also making a significant impact in the realm of cancer care in through its robust portfolio of oncology drugs, both novel biologics and biosimilars. In 2006, Biocon earned the distinction of being the first company in India to launch a novel biologic, Nimotuzumab, a humanized anti-EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) monoclonal antibody (mAb), for head & neck cancer patients. BIOMAb EGFR® is currently the No. 1 brand in its category.

Patients suffering from HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer in India gained access to an affordable version of Trastuzumab when Biocon launched the world’s first biosimilar version of the innovator product in the country in 2014. CANMAb™, which ranks as the No. 2 brand of Trastuzumab in India, has helped treat several thousand HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients since its launch.

By taking its rh-insulin, insulin analog and biosimilar Trastuzumab to other emerging markets, Biocon is helping ensure affordable access to advanced biologics for a wider pool of patients.

World Class Manufacturing Capabilities
The company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities – both mammalian and microbial –are designed to conform to the most stringent cGMP guidelines, comply with international regulatory standards and meet client requirements worldwide. The company has received cGMP approvals from over 25 international regulatory agencies, including those from US, EU, Japan, France, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and GCC among others.

Large Commercial Footprint
Biocon’s commercial footprint extends to over 125 countries across emerging and developed markets. At the group level the organization has a multicultural workforce of over 9000 people and is ranked among the Top 10 global biotech employers.

Let’s start at the beginning- a story recounts that the 12th century Hoysala king Veera Ballala II while on a hunting expedition, lost his way in the forest. Tired and hungry, he came across a poor old woman who served him boiled beans. The grateful king named the place "benda-kaal-uru" (literally, "town of boiled beans"), which eventually evolved into "Bengaluru”. The name changed over the years but the hospitality did not!

Bengaluru or Bangalore, the third largest city in India is located in the south of India and the capital of the state of Karnataka. It is also known as the "Silicon Valley of India" because of its role as the nation's leading information technology exporter. Located at a height of over 3,000 feet (914.4 m) above sea level, Bangalore is known for its pleasant climate throughout the year. The city is amongst the top ten preferred entrepreneurial locations in the world.

Bengaluru is an amalgamation of a rich cultural past and rapid modernization. The Old city retains more than a hint of its glorious past in the forts and palaces from the 16th century with their splendid architecture and sprawling “maidans”. The New city is famous for its impressive modern buildings which house the technology giants, the numerous high quality educational institutions that attract students from all over, the well laid out connectivity within the city & to the outside world, the thriving night life and the excellent shopping. These qualities make it a magnificent place to visit, a delightful city to live in as well and a gateway to the rest of India.

Karnataka’s manifold attractions will have you missing just one thing – TIME!! Game sanctuaries at Bandipur, Nagarhole & Dandeli, hill stations like Nandi Hills, Kemmannagundi & Mercara, beach resorts like Karwar, Ullal, Malpe & Maravanthe, Brindavan Gardens at KRsagar, the monolithic statue of Gommateshwara at Sharavanabelagola, GolGumbaz with its whispering gallery at Bijapur, the Jog falls ,the list of tourist attractions is endless.

The temples at Aihole, Badami and Pattadakal in Bijapurdistricthave great significance for all lovers of art. The temples of Halebedu, Belur and Somanathapura are great architectural achievements – the like of which are rarely seen in any part of the world.
